I'll say that it will fall. The Gold Standard hasn't been used for years to determine currency value. Gold is at an all time high which means it's bound to come down. And just this morning I saw a news report that cited many people were disappointed that special minted gold coins they bought after watching T.V. ads weren't bringing in amounts that they were sold for. Glenn Beck was being criticized for endorsing these gold coins. Right now, everyone is running to find an investment that will bring a higher yield- and that kind of run usually drops the price of any given commodity.

Without specific experience with PMC, I think you are going to have to paint the iron with flux to deal with the oxides. The silver is soft enough that the difference in coefficients of expansion may be irrelevant. Before doing it with your medallion, I think a test on a piece of scrap iron from the blacksmith would be in order.

You are getting confused beteen two different ideas.
normally metals react according to Metal + acid = salt + hdrogen.
As you rightly understand, metals below H in the activity series can generate Hydrogen this way. The more reactive metal displaces H from the acid.
However concentrated nitric acid is a potent oxidising agent and can dissolve most metals. The nitric acid is reduced to either NO2 or NO in the process. You get this with copper using a] conc nitric and b] 50% nitric respectively. You'll never get hydrogen in these reactions, as they are not displacement reactions.
Even the most inert precious metals eg gold can be dissolved by a potent enough oxidising acid ..aqua regia , a brew of conc nitric and conc hydrochloric acids

Im originally from South Africa and visit frequently. You dont need any vaccinations unless you are going on a safari in a malaria area. Most game reserves advertise as malaria free if they are. In regards to water etc, it is perfectly okay to drink the water and use it to brush your teeth etc. Hope that helps!
