Gold Prospecting | Metal Detectors | Panning

By Goldfinder

With the high prices of gold these days, many folks are interested in panning for gold for fun and recreation. The chances you'll strike it rich are dim, but if you will work at it, there is still gold out there to be found. Many new prospectors have a problem finding good places to prospect for gold. Many spots are either located on private property or already held as a private mining claim. As a result, many people get together and form clubs. The prospecting clubs and acquire their own claims for the use of the members. However sometimes a new prospector would like to try his hand panning for gold at least the first few times without having to pay the money to join a prospecting club. This article describes a beautiful little spot where one can dredge, sluice, metal detect, or pan for gold, all for free. It is called Mineral Bar campground and is located where the Colfax - Iowa Hill Road crosses over the American River. In the terms of the old miners, a bar is a place where gold bearing gravel accumulates. continued below...

A gravel stop is usually part of metal flashing on the edge of a flat roof. The roofing material is laid (rubber, asphalted felt), and gravel is laid on top as ballast. The metal edge is trim for the top of the wall, and there is a ridge on top of it that retails the gravel.

I guess you could use treated 2×6, but generally that is installed, then the metal is installed over it.

    Hope this helps.

No doubt driving on a rough, muddy and bumpy road is the toughest challenge for a driver. But for off-roaders, it’s more like fun; and why not if they have an off road vehicle? Off-road vehicles are those which can be driven on and off gravel as well as paved surfaces.

Yes, to a point. Metal detectors send out a magnetic pulse, which induces a current in nearby metal and results in a magnetic pulse generated by the metal. How strong and how "pure" the return pulse is can tell the detector how much metal there is, as well as something about what it's made of. For instance, gold is a better conductor than aluminum, so it'll generate a stronger pulse for the same size object (other sensors can give some idea how big the thing is physically).

Handheld units probably can't pick apart an object into types. If you had a copper/zinc modern penny, it would probably have that info programmed in and be able to tell you. But if there were a roll of pennies of different types all clumped together, wouldn't be able to tell you how many were pure copper and how many were zinc with copper coating.

Note that coin-operated devices use a similar effect to tell if you've put a real coin or a slug into the machine. One of the challenges in designing the current dollar coin was that it had to have the same magnetic properties as the Susan B. Anthony dollars, since a lot of vending machines had been designed to take those.

it doen't sound like it would be suitable for your cories. cories and other bottom feeders need smooth, rounded substrate that won't hurt thier barbels.

oh, and the package means it will raise the pH buffering capacity. personally i think it's always best to use inert gravel. that way the water in your tank stays closer to your tap, reducing the stress of water changes. as a result, you can do more, bigger water changes which keeps the water sooo much nicer.

Crow Creek above Gridwood (35 miles east of Anchorage) has a modest amount of larger, flat flakes in it.

Sorry I don't know the name, but about 2 hours out of Anchorage towards Tok on the Richardson Highway is a public gold panning area that a lot of people stop at. I have no clue about its productivity.

Way the heck out in the boonies (and off the North American road system), but my understanding is the gold dredges out of Nome only got the flakes, not the nuggets. So if you are looking at metal-detector use rather than panning, that is a possibility. Getting pretty cold there, starting about now.

For a very pretty setting, Hope, Alaska on Cook Inlet would hard to beat. It was worked about 105 years ago and for decades afterwards, but there's always some left behind and some new stuff washing out. There's a excellent trail all along the river and the townsite is occupied by about 50 interesting characters, some in old log cabins. Others operating modern B&Bs.

  25. You need to look for FLEX SPACE. This can be located in a strip center or its own building. FLEX SPACE will allow you to convert it to a dance center. You likely will not find a space with wood floors and a mirrored wall, all those will have to be built once you locate the space.

  26. A mixture of various sizes is good. Some in the 1-1/2" size, some less than 1-1/2" and some in the 1/2" to 1/4" size.

This can be crushed rock or river gravel that depends on what is available locally. The idea is the smaller rocks will fit in between the larger pieces and give a smoother surface and "lock" together better.

I wouldn't pay to have it compacted. Just normal traffic will do than.

Right now globally mac makes up 2 percent of the GLOBAL PC userbase (Stop calling windows PC, PC means personal computer, which mac is also) Now WHY.. WHY would someone waste their time trying to steal data from mac users, when they could program that same virus for a windows computer, and hit 50x more PCs in the same amount of programming? When did I once talk down about MACs? MACs are great for light duty shit. They are the firefox of PCs. I just explained why they have little to no viruses.

I like to keep websites small and with a center-justified table layout. That's the simple route. That way whatever size the screen is, your website will be floating in the middle. 1024 is still valid. Laptops are something like 1440×990.

I wouldn't consider the ipad to be that big a deal, unless you are designing some sort of ipad users website. It occupies and will continue to occupy a very tiny share of web traffic.

Most people will be using laptops and desktops and some unexciting resolution… no more than an average of 1280×1024…. that's a reasonable max in fact.

Picking up petrified wood is HIGHLY ILLEGAL! Do not even hint of an intent to disturb petrified wood. Rock hunting, however, is allowable in publicly owned areas, but not in national or state parks. Gold panning is allowable pretty much on the same basis, except that you cannot prospect in the Superstition Mountains. (That's because those believing the Lost Dutchman mine was there made such a mess.)
This is not the 1800s. Zoning laws and all sorts of other legal impediments exist, and most of the promising areas were long since claimed.
