    The bouyant force acting on the rock (ala Archimedes) is 10 N – 6.2 N = 3.8 N force from the water

    Mass of the water = Weight/gravity = 3.8/9.8 = 0.39 kg

    0.39 kg x 1000 g/kg x 1 cc/g = 390 cc of volume (for the water and the rock, too, since they will have the same volume)

    the mass of the rock = weight/gravity = 10/9.8 = 1.02 kg x 1000 g/kg = 1020 g

    Density = mass/volume = 1020/390 = 2.62 g/cc

    2.62 times is your answer

    Hope that helps…

    Gold panning is not a hobby for making a fast buck far from it, you will be lucky to cover your cost of fuel and food for the day. It’s about the beautiful places it will lead you to and the fresh air you breathe. However there’s nothing stopping you from making a piece of jewellery for family or a friend or if you are feeling very generous why not donate it to a museum. Good luck.

    TuurlijkNiet writes with this excerpt from Linux for Devices: “Eat your heart out, ‘Retina display.’ A new technology unveiled yesterday will allow creating pixels eight times smaller than the ones on Apple’s iPhone 4, eliminate the need for polarizer layers, and allow screens to make much more efficient use of available light, say University of Michigan researchers. … The pixels in the nanoresonator displays are about ten times smaller than those on a typical computer screen, and about eight times smaller than the pixels on the iPhone 4, which are about 78 microns, according to Guo. Such pixel densities could make the technology useful in projection displays, as well as wearable, bendable or extremely compact displays, according to the researchers.”

    No. The typical particle density of the mineral fraction of soils is 2.65 g/cc, or 2.65 Mg/m3.

    Bulk density (BD) is considerably less, because soil also includes organic matter, air and water, all of which have smaller densities than the mineral matter.

    Typical BDs for topsoil range from about 1 g/cc to 1.8 g/cc. Sandy soils generally are in the higher end of the range, and organic soils in the lower end.

    The purpose of this article is to show that even the most elementary problems in asymptotic extremal graph theory can be highly non-trivial. We study linear inequalities between graph homomorphism densities. In the language of quantum graphs the validity of such an inequality is equivalent to the positivity of a corresponding quantum graph. Similar to the setting of polynomials, a quantum graph that can be represented as a sum of squares of labeled quantum graphs is necessarily positive. Lov’asz asks whether the opposite is also true. We answer this question and also a related question of Razborov in the negative by introducing explicit valid inequalities that do not satisfy the required conditions. Our solution to these problems is based on a reduction from real multivariate polynomials and uses the fact that there are positive polynomials that cannot be expressed as sums of squares of polynomials. It is known that the problem of determining whether a multivariate polynomial is…
